Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not permitted. Eight casinos are based in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that features numerous comforts aside from the gambling den, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
