Cambodia Casinos
There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is against the law. Eight casinos are based in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel complex that highlights many luxuries accompanying the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
