Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is against the law. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling den, contains 150 slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel compound that contains numerous amenities on top of the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
